1. About Yapuu
Yapuu is a messaging app for chatting, calling, seeing where your friends are (only when they choose to share), and lighting a Campfire with people nearby. By creating an account or using Yapuu you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Who can use Yapuu
Yapuu is for people aged 18 and over. When you sign up you tell us your date of birth so we can check this. If we find out someone is under 18, we will close the account.
You may have one account, for yourself. Do not pretend to be someone else.
4. Your account
You sign in with your phone number and a code we text you. You only do this once on a phone; after that Yapuu keeps you signed in until you sign out. On the Yapuu website you sign in with your number or email and a website password you set in the app. Keep your phone and your codes to yourself. You are responsible for what happens on your account, so tell us straight away if you think someone else is using it.
5. Be decent
Do not use Yapuu to harass, threaten, bully or stalk anyone; to share hateful, violent or sexual content; to share anything involving people under 18 in a sexual way (we have zero tolerance and will report it to the authorities); to scam, spam or mislead people; to share other people's private information, photos or location without their permission; to break the law; or to harm Yapuu, its servers or other people's devices.
Do not copy or scrape Yapuu, and do not try to get around the safety features.
6. Your content
Your messages, photos, voice and moments belong to you. You give Yapuu permission to store, send and show them to the people you chose, only so that the app can work. We do not sell your content and we do not use it for advertising.
Only share things you have the right to share. Your posts show on Today for your mates for 7 days, and stay on your profile for your mates until you delete them. Story clips last 7 days. You can delete any post at any time. A pic sent to one person disappears after they open it unless they keep it. Anyone who saw something could have saved it, so think before you post.
7. The map and your location
Location sharing is switched on by you, friend by friend. Both people must agree before either can see the other. You can share exactly, roughly, or not at all with each friend, and Ghost mode hides you from everyone at once. There is no public map and no way for strangers to find you. Your last known position (one position, never a history) stays on the map for the friends you chose to share with, shown as last seen, until 90 days after you last used Yapuu, then it is deleted. It is removed at once when you switch on Ghost mode, turn sharing off, sign out or delete your account. Friends you hide from, and people who are not your friends, never see it.
8. Campfire
Campfire connects phones that are close together, without the internet. Only light a Campfire with people you are happy to be near, and respect them: do not share things in a Campfire that people have not agreed to. Range depends on your surroundings and both phones need the app open.
9. Calls
Yapuu calls use the internet, so call quality depends on your connection and mobile data charges may apply. Yapuu is not a phone line and cannot call emergency numbers. Always use your phone's normal calling to reach the police, an ambulance or the fire service.
10. Safety, blocking and reporting
You can block anyone and report any person, message or moment. We review reports and may remove content, limit features or close accounts that break these terms. Where the law requires it, we may share information with the authorities.
11. Cost
Yapuu is free to use at the moment. Your mobile network may charge for data. If we introduce paid features, we will tell you first and you will never be charged without agreeing.
12. Leaving Yapuu
You can delete your account at any time from You, Account, Delete my account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Deleting your account removes your profile and your data as described in the Privacy Policy.
13. What we promise and what we do not
We work hard to keep Yapuu running and safe, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors. To the fullest extent the law allows, Yapuu is provided as it is, and we are not responsible for losses that we could not reasonably have foreseen, or for what other people do. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law.
14. Changes
We may update these terms as Yapuu grows. If a change matters, we will tell you in the app before it starts. Using Yapuu after a change means you accept it.
15. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of South Africa. Questions or complaints: open You, Help and feedback in the app.
